After a 20 year battle Assen gets its own Cycle Track
On the 23 rd June 2009 the city council announced the decision to build a new Cycling Centre in Assen.
Max Bruins is delighted that his 20 year campaign to get a Cycle Centre built in Assen has finally paid off. Never give up!
The plans will be finalised by the end of this year and it is intended to have the new Cycle Centre up and running in 2011.
This fantastic new cycling facility will benefit not just Assen but the whole of the North.
The plans include extending and improving the current 780 metre outdoor course available to cyclists.
Plans to build a cyclo cross course and national cyclo cross centre have also been agreed.
Alongside these outdoor facilities a sportshall is to be build for athletes.
However the good news doesn't stop there. A 200 metre wooden track is also planned
Erica Terpstra, chairman of the NOC*/NSF announced his support for these facilities and outlined the benefits they would bring to cycling in the region.
Electronic Transponders
Unfortunately the organisation is unable to provide electronic timing transponders for competitors this year. The current cost of 35000 euros is prohibitive. it is hoped that transponders will be available in the future.
